Do you love accessories?
How about supporting worthwhile charitable causes?
Now how about if we could combine those two interests…
You can!
The annual “Runway to Service” auction is a joint event between Mercedes Benz Fashion Week designers and the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Designers donate clothing and accessories right off the runway, which is then auctioned off to raise funds for the victims and family members of 9/11.
So what kind of goodies can you find at the online auction?
Let’s take a peek…

I think that Isaac Mizrahi’s giant flower corsages and Sarah Jessica Parker’s flowers from Sex and the City have seeped into my brain…
I was browsing through Etsy this morning, looking for our Weekend Etsy Pick when this gem caught my eye. Don’t get me wrong – it’s a lot of look, but I love the playfulness and sheer exuberance:
This piece by Big Frozen Melon is a mix between a really skinny scarf and an enthusiastic lariat necklace. The flower itself is made from felted Merino wool, with stitched bead accents in the center of the flower. The necklace/scarf is crocheted …read more

The symbol of the Evil Eye is popular in Greek culture because it is said to ward off the evil spells that are cast by an envious glance. Otrera founder Elle Sakellis was inspired by the symbol of the Evil Eye from her frequent travels to visit family in Mykonos and had the idea of bringing this traditional and meaningful symbol into high fashion. She created a bold pattern in many vibrant colors that featured the iconic Evil Eye and used the fabric to create beautiful silk chiffon scarves.

The idea of the snood as a fashionable piece that can be worn as a hood or scarf has inspired many designers to push the versatility of winter headgear. We no longer have to decide whether we need to wear a scarf or a hat. Now we can choose one beautiful accessory that we can use in multiple different ways.
After writing about the snood last week, I have been obsessed with finding other designers who are exploring this idea. Susanne Guldager is a Danish designer who creates beautiful conceptual pieces with a dark and funky vibe. Her designs are daring …read more

When most people think about scarves, they think of something that’s completely utilitarian.
It’s a garment that’s meant to keep you warm, not necessarily be a stylish accent, right?
Well, accessory designers are out to prove those people wrong!
You can find all kinds of amazing details on scarves these days. From ruffles, smocking and unique fabric treatments, there are all kinds of interesting scarves that will keep you warm – and stylish.

As the keffiyeh scarf trend is on its way out, a new scarf trend is on its way in. Giant, circular scarves are a major must have for fall and winter, especially in chunky knits and dark colors. There’s a slew of high priced designer options out there, but I love this one by indie designer Yokoo. Check it:
I love the intellectual geek chic way that the scarf is styled in this photo, but it would also look great with a tight black dress and tall boots. The yarn is 80% acrylic and 20% wool, so it’s soft and warm, …read more
How To Keep Your Accessories Organized

I must admit that I am obsessed with being organized. Everything I own has its special little place and after I use it I promptly return it so everything is nice and clean and easy to find.
I have tried every accessories organization technique available because dealing with lots of little pieces can quickly become a nightmare. I have accumulated a lot of jewelry over the years, ranging from $1 costume jewelry pieces to priceless family jewels and somehow I can never find the exact piece that I’m looking for when I’m rushing out the door. I have hats and scarves …read more

Fall is coming up sooner than you think and the best way to transition some of the lighter weight summer clothing options into fall is by the use of scarves. A typical fall outfit might consist of jeans, a summer tank top or sleeveless top worn with a cardigan or blazer and topped off with any one of these cute scarves.
These light weight Tolani Lakshmi Scarves ($95) are some of the more popular scarves worn by celebs. Recently it was seen on Jessica Alba! Each one measures 28″ x 80″ and is made by skilled weavers making each one unique …read more
