Otrera Evil Eye Scarf in Green $198

Now the Evil Eye scarves have become the most recognizable piece from Otrera as they have made their way into the closets of fabulous celebrities and high-end department stores like Henri Bendel’s and Intermix. The Evil Eye scarf is now being sold in stores around the world!

The sequel to the Evil Eye scarf is the new Hamsa scarf from Otrera which features the hamsa hand with the evil eye in its palm. In traditional Islamic and Jewish culture, the hand is an amulet with magical powers to offer protection and to ward off the evil eye.

Otrera Hamsa Scarf in Purple $158

Both Otrera scarf styles are hand sewn from richly colored silk chiffon and are large in size (45″ x 45″) so they can be worn in a multitude of different styles. The scarves all have tiny glass charms at the corners that match the evil eye symbol on the pattern. A bold colored silk scarf is a great way to add color to a simple Fall outfit.

You can visit Otrera’s website to find out more about Elle Sakellis’ designs, buy Hamsa and Evil Eye scarves and see the wide variety of different colors options.

Most hairstyles work best with a silk, or other very thin material, square scarf that is between 24″ and 36″ on each side. Here are my favorite ways to wear a headscarf this summer:

Low Bun Wrap – adds glamour to a simple hairstyle. Start with hair pulled back into a low ponytail. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Place center of long edge of triangle at hairline. Bring edges of triangle around to back tightly and tie under ponytail. Twist ponytail and tied ends of scarf together and wrap around into a tight bun. Tuck edges of hair and scarf under bun.

Headband – simple and adds color to a down or updo. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Roll scarf from long edge of triangle end towards the tip of the triangle so it becomes a long thick rectangular band. Flip hair upside and place center of band at forehead. Tie a square knot under hair at the top of the neck. Flip hair back and flatten around band. Pull long edges of scarf from back of neck to hang in front. You can vary the thickness of the band for different looks.

Hollywood – glamorous paired with sunglasses. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Place center of long edge of triangle just above hairline. Cross the ends of the scarf under chin. Bring ends around to back of neck loosely and tie together.

Head Wrap – best with voluminous beach hair. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Place center of long edge of triangle at middle of forehead. Bring edges of triangle around to back tightly and tie together on top of point of scarf.

Now that I have figured out how to wear a headscarf, I will be posting this week with different scarves that you can buy to try out your new scarf style!

All diagrams are from Tasaram, which is an online store with a great collection of silk scarves with beautiful Asian-inspired designs.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to run my hands through my button stash now…

I stumbled across The Carrotbox not too long ago and had to share their site. It’s part blog, part shop & definitely worth checking out.

They have rings made out of vintage silk kimonos

Vintage lucite rings

And carved “Zinnia” lucite rings. Too yummy!

Just in case it has skipped your mind, there is a very romantic night coming up and I think that this evening bag should just about hold all that is required to see you through the evening.
Just how many evening bags do you own by the way? Does one need more than one? And what are the must haves that you carry in your bag? I know that there isn’t a lot of room, but I’m curious to see if anyone can stuff more into it than me!
