For me, Fall and Winter mean jeans, and Spring and Summer mean dresses. But in those few in-between weeks when its warm enough to go bare legged, but too cold to break out the sundresses, I get a little confused. Dresses, even when they’re long, tend to be made of lightweight material, so they don’t do much to keep you warm. Unless, of course, they’re adorable velvet jumpers by Stacie May!

I am seriously in lust with the delicious 70’s appeal of this dress. The color blocked velvet looks absolutely elegant combined with the soft silk floral ruffle. And the takes the A-line and pinches it just slightly for a slimmer silhouette. The dress is fully lined, so while you could wear it with some kicky flats on a breezy Spring day, it would also work with tights and boots in Winter. Available for $208 from Smashing Darling.

Remember Alison Kelly from Project Runway? I loved her, too. Totally should have won.

She has a super cute line, Dahl, and Smashing Darling has a couple of pieces, like this great mini-dress, which has a hand-crocheted bird motif.

birthday wish: balloon dress

It’s my birthday today. I’ve officially been on earth for a quarter of a century, which really isn’t that long, but it seems like it. In honor of my birthday I’ve put together a little outfit I’d like, but will probably never have.

This isn’t a dress I’d wear every day, but it’s so cute and fun. It reminds me of the gigantic balloons you get at the carnival, the ones you can practically sit on. KRELwear makes this and they say you can hike it up to create a more balloon-y effect. I have a good black belt that would cinch it pretty, too. ($276)

If I was going out, I’d wear this necklace with my balloon dress. It’s based off a medieval alchemic design, which makes it sound pretty cool.
