I sleep until the very last minute, so when I get in the shower, it’s time to quickly multi-task. I usually shampoo, then apply a deep conditioner that soaks in while I shave my legs. Now I’ve got one more step to add; and in-shower facial.

Clean & Clear has a new Morning Burst In-Shower Facial that they sent me to try for review. It’s quick, simple to use. It’s made with ingredients like Ginseng, citrus, purifying clay, and fruit extracts.

The facial is part of the Clean & Clear Morning Burst line. It’s very simple to use, apply, let it set one minute, then work into your skin gently to exfoliate. One of the easiest ways to avoid breakouts is to exfoliate regularly. Exfoliating clears the way for additional skin treatments (moisturizer, acne medication, self-tanning products), and it leaves your skin soft and smooth.

I liked that the gritty part of the scrub- the “micro-beads” – were super fine and there were a lot of them. Excellent. My biggest complaint with exfoliating products is that they are thin on the “grit” which leaves me feeling like I am only able to really treat one part of my face.

Another thing that I liked about the product is the smell – it’s very fresh, doesn’t smell medicine-y. The opening is at the bottom of the bottle which saves time in the long run, when you’ve used most of it up and you are trying to get the last drop out. Plus, the price is great.

You can find this product anywhere that Clean & Clear products are sold. Click here for directions to an online coupon.

Bath Salts

2 cups Sea Salt
2 cups Epsom Salt
15-17 drops essential oil of your choice (I use lavender or eucalyptus)
food coloring, optional color of your choice

In a bowl, stir together your salts, essential oil, and food coloring. Mix well, then store in a sealed container. To use, scoop 1/8 of a cup of salt and add to bathwater as the tub fills.

Unsure what essential oils to use? How about….

*4 drops each of Lemon, Lime, Bergamot, and Orange
*6 drops Bergamot, 4 drops Geranium, 4 drops Rose, and 3 drops Sandalwood
*4 drops each Lavender, Orange, Cinnamon, and Clove

It’s easy to make body scrubs, too. Start with a good moisturizing body lotion, I like one with a shea butter base. You can find a Coffee Scrub recipe here.

Sugar Scrub

*1/3 cup Raw Sugar
*1/3 cup Shea Butter moisturizer

Stir sugar into the moisturizer then smooth into your skin. I do this while standing in the shower, with the water off, to avoid a mess. Pay particular attention to areas like your elbows, kneels, or heels. Rinse scrub off, then reapply sugar-less moisturizer when you get out of the shower.

A few years ago, it seems Avon jumped on the Oil of Olay bandwagon (or maybe Avon was the trailblazer?) and revamped its image. These days, Olay doesn’t immediately make one think of that little pink bottle on grandma’s dresser, and Avon has scored a reputation as a bona fide skincare savant.

With products like Anew Ultimate Age Repair Elixir, it’s easy to see why.

Avon Anew Ultimate Age Repair Elixir

The light-weight serum is like a blanket of silk you cloak around your face and neck before applying your sunscreen or night cream. The elixir is full of something called Sirtuins, which are considered a breakthrough in antiaging because they have been shown to protect skin cells from DNA damage. The elixir rapidly absorbs into the skin and actually makes it feel tighter and about a hundred times smoother.

I’m not one who believes in miracle wrinkle cures. For me, if a product keeps my skin clear, soft and supple, it’s a keeper. Well, Avon’s elixir is just a bit more special than that. It tames the redness in my cheeks and leaves my skin dewy and powder-fresh.

For $54, you get a pretty big bottle that lasts about two months. And, if Avon’s enthusiastic reviewers are to be believed, I’m not the only one who thinks the mail-order mavens have created a pretty special product.
