“Bangs can be a great way to frame the face and actually add volume to the face,” says stylist Atuozo Neihule.

Why is this? Well, you have probably noticed that as we get older, a lot of us tend to notice lines draw our face downward. Bangs can actually offset long lines, by framing the face and brining attention to the eyes.

What else is great at “cutting” time?

A short cut can often open the face and brighten the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Yvonne Neihule states, “Shorter tends to look better on older women, but short with style a little edge.”

In addition to cut, style can have a reflection on one’s age. One great option is feathering, that’s creating soft curls and cutting back on the heavy and stiff.

Feathering adds softness to a style that complements the face and does not focus or highlight harsh lines or shades in the face. Softer is better in many cases.

So, cheer up! You are as young as your hair style!

Bang Back the Years

Check out his tips, below, for creating a really fun and festive updo in five easy steps.

1) Start by misting hair with Controller Conditioning Spray then blow dry hair straight

2) Comb all hair back as if you are about to make a ponytail, but twist hair up instead to form an upside down French Twist

3) Keep on twisting hair upward until you’ve almost hit the hairline tucking ends under and securing tightly with bobby pins

4) Accent an up-do with a feather or piece of tulle positioned perfectly toward the back of the head, off to one side

5) Finish off this elegant look with Umberto’s Super Hold Hair Spray and a touch of Shimmer Shine Spray

After you create your fabulous updo, know how to accessorize it…I normally wear my own long blond hair down. When it’s up, my neck and ears suddenly feel naked! Use the chance to wear flashy long earrings and show off a little of your personal style – it’ll add just another element to your style!

Creating a Fun Updo

Axe Hair Care

One hot look we are seeing everywhere is the “classic” look – ala Mad Men. Want to recreate it at home? Diana gave some tips! My advice: Copy the URL, and share with your man immediately!

Obviously, you’ll need clean, wet hair, a comb and pomade – Diana recommends AXE Smooth & Sophisticated Shine Pomade because it is designed to add hold and maximum shine, which is essential for this look.

In general, most styling products work best on dry or almost dry hair. For this look, however, you’ll want wet hair because the pomade will lock in the moisture.

Finger, Rub and Spread

After you’ve washed your hair, take a finger tip amount of the pomade and distribute it evenly through the hair from front to back and back to front (you can always use more product if necessary).

Style

The key to creating that classic look is in the severe part. Take a comb and create a side part in a straight line from the front of the head to the crown.

Finish

Take another fingertip amount of the shine pomade, rub it vigorously between your hands, and lightly go over the finished style to ensure it stays in place all day.

Your man will be classic-cool Mad Men style in no time!

Jessica Szohr is wearing an oversized pair of flat top metal and plastic sunglasses.  This style is similar to the Clubmaster with the combination of materials and the patterned or colored top accent piece.  Her sunglasses have translucent brown rims and brown lenses with a flashy snakeskin pattern across the top.  These sunglasses fit perfectly with Jessica’s rocker hipster look with black jeans, a vintage tee, suede ankle wrap sandals, and a studded black leather handbag.  Not everyone would wear that much black in New York in the summer heat!

Don’t stress though. I consulted celebrity stylist Robert Ramos, and he gave us some fabulous tips and tricks to find the most flattering part for our face!

Long-Faced Gals

If you have a narrow face, avoid center parts because it elongates and extenuates the narrowness of the face. Opt for a low-deep side part to add width to the face and make it appear less narrow.

Rounding It Out

If you have a round face, it’s best to avoid a low-deep side part and move it toward the center. By parting in the center of the head, the face will appear narrower. This is also an instant way to thin out cheeks!

Pump Up the Volume

Switching the part from the natural side to the opposite side will add volume to your hairstyle. Because the hair is not used to falling on that side of the face, it will add will have lift at the root, making the hair appear fuller and more voluminous.

The Girl With a Curl

Remember the ’90’s era zig-zag part? It is actually perfect for girls with curls, when correctly adapted. Instead of a severe zigzag, loosely with fingers weave through hair and create an off-centered part. This will help distribute the weight of coarse, curly hair. It avoids having too much volume on one side of the head by evenly placing the weight of the curls on both sides.

Sling on a Jersey Scarf

My personal favorite is still Angel’s gorgeous shirt dress, paired with blue and red Stella McCartney heels. This dress is just so funky and wearable – it just looks effortlessly chic, which I think takes a tremendous amount of skill. I hope Angel can keep up and continue delivering in the coming weeks.

I also really enjoyed Daniella’s take on Alexander McQueen (who happens to be one of my favorite designers). It’s a bit more challenging to design a dress that compliments the work of a designer who creates both shoes and clothes. A certain expectation comes along with what he evokes, and I believe she’s really done his whole ethos proud with this super sexy svelte dress.

And now, since we’re done piling on the praise…here are the worst designs for the week.

Andrew was the loser, with a dress that Manolo Blahnik loving Carrie Bradshow would never even consider. What a shame…though the shoes are still heaven to look at.

But It’s a good thing for Merlin he’s been pretty strong for the past few weeks – because this costume dress is just awful. Giuseppe Zanotti heels or not, there is no way any woman in her right mind would go for this. Not a chance!

I also didn’t care for James-Paul’s dress for Jimmy Choos. Maybe I’ve just come to expect more from him, but it just felt flat and frumpy from the loose waist to the unflattering hemline.

The Fashion Show: Episode 4 Best and Worst

There was no wasting time – the designers met with Laura Brown from Harper’s Bazaar magazine and immediately started in their challenge…create a pair of eco-friendly shoes for Elizabeth Olsen of Olsenhaus pure vegan shoes from a box of organic materials and plain ankle boot. Reco’s team was super strong and Johnny was declared the winner with his risky (but actually kind of cute) coverted wedge.

Next the group of contestants headed over to Bergdorf-Goodman…heaven for lovers of high fashion. The challenge: create an outfit inspired by one pair of super fabulous shoes. Around this time we also get a sense for just how suspicious our dear designers are…everyone seems to think everyone else is stealing their ideas and designs! Daniella…what have you started?

The cattiness and arrogant antics ensue back at the design studio – life would certainly be more interesting if we were all allowed to behave like this, right? Of course, it’s down to the wire with people panicked all the way up until the runway show. Let’s just take a minute to ooh and ahh at how lovely Kelly Rowland looks in this gorgeous black cocktail dress…

Reco, Angel and Daniella’s designs are declared the best…and Reco ultimately wins the challenge. Greeeaat… this isn’t going to make his ego grow any bigger…no, of course not…

I will hold off commenting on the designs in more detail until I have photos to share with you (coming soon!) but I think I have to disagree with the judges this week and pick Angel’s design as the absolute best.

But with winners…there must also be losers. This week, Lidia and Andrew are sweating bullets at the end of the show, while Issac lists off all the reasons they both failed this week. Lidia cries, Andrew looks pensive, and in the end…Andrew goes home.

The show is picking up and I can’t wait to see what’s up next week – word is there might be some plus size fashions on the runway!

The Fashion Show: Episode 4 Preview Clips!

The mini-challenge puts the designers to the eco-friendly test, with a new print for Olsenhaus pure vegan shoes on the agenda. Good for the environment and chic…now that’s a trend worth following.

For the elimination challenge, a common female problem is the crux of the matter…what do you do when you fall in love with a gorgeous pair of shoes, and have nothing in your closet to go with it?

The designers stroll through the Bergdorf Goodman shoe salon in order to find their muse – an avant-garde pair of high end shoes – then must design the perfect complimentary outfit for their incredible heels. George Malkemus, president of a wee little company may have heard of (ahem, Manolo Blahnik) joins Issac, Kelly and Fern on the judges panel.
