93% of interesting people love lobsters. No, really, it’s true. Gerard de Nerval, a completely awesome symbolist poet and haver of nervous breakdowns, was known to walk his pet lobster around the streets of Paris. This shirt is a tribute to him.

The text is in French, but translated, it reads “I have a liking for lobsters. They are peaceful, serious creatures. They know the secrets of the sea, they don’t bark…” Ha! It’s true! They really don’t bark. Available for $24 from Xenotees.

After WWII, King George (of the UK) issued a series of posters to lift the spirits of his subjects. By Order of the Crown has re-issued the slogan in the form of tee shirts, magnets, and, well, posters. And in these heady modern times, the dictate to keep moving still seems authentic. Perhaps, more so than ever. And, it makes for a really cool tee shirt.

Vampires are the hottest thing since, er, well, I’m not really sure what. But they’re everywhere in pop culture right now. I’m sure this is evidence of, like, some super important cultural trends, or whatever, but what I really like about it is the monsters. MONSTERS ROCK! I’m not sure why. Maybe because they’re evil and scary and also comforting relics of childhood?

In any case, if all the monsters that you were ever scared of got together and had a tea party or something, this is what it would look like. It would look awesome, and you would want to wear it every day this summer and probably even into fall. Available for $23 from Lucha Workshop.

Brooklyn Bridge Tee by Brooklyn Royalty

Some people say that Brooklyn is leading the independent design revolution. Having lived in New York for many years, I wouldn’t entirely disagree, but I hesitate to cordon off what seems to be an international movement to just a few legs of the subway line.

That being said, Brooklyn does have a lot going for it, and some of my very favorite new designers hail from there. Including bespoke Brooklyn Royalty, which specializes in a certain locals only flavor of graphic design that nonetheless translate outside the borough.

I love this Brooklyn Bridge tee, with its negative exposure and asymmetrical cropping. I hate the way it’s styled in this pic, but I doubt that many men are actually pairing it with acid wash, anyhow. I’d love it with some short shorts, vintage kicks, and maybe some neon Ray Bans for good measure. Available for $37 from Smashing Darling.

Player Of The Game Shirt by Vintage Vantage

I’m not really the kind of person that’s super into graphic tees. I don’t have a lot of shirts with, like, really catchy slogans on them or anything. I mostly buy tees on the basis of cut and comfort, and keep the words to a minimum. But, Vintage Vantage consistently produces shirts of high quality with smart, irreverant stuff on them.

Like this tongue-in-cheeky cute “Player of the Game” shirt. This one is a little cheesy for boys, but I’d love it on a sassy girl with a lot of attitude. I can personally attest to the durability and quality of this line, as I have a vintage reprint of a cold war shirt by them that I’ve had for years, and it just gets better with every wash. They don’t ake it anymore, but it has a hammer and sickle in red on yellow and says, “Why can’t we be comrades?” Sorry you can’t have one of your own, but there’s plenty more wit where that came from.
