Toronto Fashion Week: Evan Biddell

I’ve been following Evan Biddell since last year mainly because like Katrina Tuttle he has no formal training. I have to say he’s progressed big time and his style has matured. I could tell this was a highly anticipated show by everyone: photographers and audience members alike.
Unfortunately I lost my chance at a good spot in the ‘pit’ at the end of the runway so was squished at the side. Luckily a fellow photographer felt my pain and let me sneak in beside her.
This was an entertaining show with Evan’s use of unique shapes and cuts. He explained to me …read more
Toronto Fashion Week: RUDSAK

I sat patiently at the end of RUDSAK’s runway excited to see what Avik Asatroorian had up his sleeve for Spring/Summer 2010. Known for their handcrafted outerwear, footwear, and bags Rudsak creates pieces that are meant to last and get better with age. The company’s inspiration is drawn from the eclectic flare of Montreal and has grown into an international brand.
The color choices were brilliant: bright reds, blues, and purples contrasted beautifully against beiges and champagnes.
The simplicity of the lines worked perfectly with the use of durable materials. The looks were classic but also uber modern.
I love the across the …read more

The birds were chirping and the sun was shining when Katrina Tuttle’s models stepped out onto the runway for her Spring/Summer 2010 show last night. It was the third day of LG Toronto Fashion Week and Katrina’s beautifully feminine pieces jump started the evening. Her color choices were light and fluffy with the odd splash of vibrant hues.
Splendicity was lucky enough to get back stage and catch up with the 21 year old self-taught designer from Halifax, Nova Scotia and talk to her about her collection and inspirations.

Toronto Fashion Week: Jason Meyers

I was told that Jason Meyers was the ‘One to Watch’ by Fashion Television a few years back. Naturally, when I saw his name on the bill for this years S/S Fashion Week I was eager to see if he would live up to the title. Sure enough I was impressed. His Spring/Summer collection is modern with a touch of elegance. Each piece can easily be worn at the office or an evening on the town.
Meyers takes classic designs and adds an urban spin. I’m a huge fan of this magenta romper. Add a blazer and your ready for work.

Toronto Fashion Week: TRAVIS TADDEO

Last night I had the privelege of checking out up and coming Montreal based designer TRAVIS TADDEO . Travis’s Spring/Summer collection caught my attention with its minimalist, ready-to-wear hipster meets high fashion vibe.
The show kicked off with swimwear…a touch on the scandalous side.
I can easily see myself sporting some of his loose tanks and sky blue jean shorts. Already, I’m getting excited for spring.
I’m a big fan of the color choices that Travis has picked. Red, Blue, and White. They are classic hues that can brighten up your closet right in time for hitting up the beach, or strolling down …read more

This morning when I came down for breakfast there was a large postcard sitting on the table from Elmwood Spa – I guess it had been inserted into the paper. Well it caught my eye due to the gorgeous image on the front of the card of a mosaic surrounded wading pool and a chandelier hovering above. WOW.
The Elmwood Spa has just received a 3 year multi-million dollar renovation and I understand it is totally unrecognizable. With 4 floors of services and restaurants, 34 treatment rooms and conveniently located in downtown Toronto it is definitely on my list of must see, …read more
