Plus size women know that not every shoe will neccessarily fit us. I haven’t had a lot of issues with standard sandals, pumps or flats, but sometimes shoes with ankle straps can be a problem.

And then of course there is the fun of fitting boots… but that’s not for today!

One option for fitting into shoes with lots of straps or a too-snug ankle strap is to take it to a cobbler or shoe repair place and see if they can punch an extra hole in the strap. Of course, you’ve got to make sure that straps are long enough that you can do that.

Or, you can try buying your shoes from a plus size store…

Torrid’s Modeling Contest Is Almost Over

There’s a week left in the Torrid House of Dreams Model Search, and models/potential models from age 16 and size 12-26 are welcome to apply. Applications need to be submitted by August 7th, and you can either email or snail mail them. You need to submit two of your best pics, so it sounds like it’s time to get snapping (or poring over those 5×7s)!

Since plus-size modeling contests are few and far between, I urge anyone who’s interested in plus modeling to head over to the site and start planning their submission now. Head over there and get more info.

I found the best dress for fall, in the unlikeliest of places: this simple, but sophisticated dress is from Torrid, and it rings in at $68! Picture it. . . you are getting ready for work, and you toss on this dress with a stretch belt and maybe a pair of booties or interesting peep toes. You got to work, punch the time clock, and then a coworker asks you out for drinks. If you were wearing a cute blazer over this number, all you have to do is slip off the layer and pow!– you’re wearing something subtly sexy.

I love grey for fall, especially for work. It’s not as harsh as black, and for those of us who are trying to make our wardrobes go further, it’s more easily coordinated with soft colors like lavender, pink, blue, and yellow. Since it blends with fall trends and palettes alike, this Torrid dress is a smart buy.

I fought the Twilight bandwagon for as long as possible, but faced with a long and lonely Friday night and On Demand television, I broke down and watched the movie (finally, right?). I loved it… no wonder there are plus-sized fan-friendly t-shirts available over at Torrid.com! I’m so on-board with the movie and am buying the books, but I’m not sure if I can take the plunge into full-fledged fan tees quite yet.

I bet you know a plus girl who will go crazy for this one, though– a plus-size present, perhaps? Thanks, Torrid!

Wow. I caught this halter over at Torrid. . . shall we list off all the reasons why this Whole Lotta Look should never touch the plus frame? Here goes!

1. One of the splotches is directly over the bust, which looks really awkward and unflattering.
2. The color combination is questionable at best.
3. All that ruffle does down the front is add pounds.
4. Super slim straps on a halter top can be a pain to wear.
5. The tube shape is not flattering to any body type.

Any other reasons out there? Yikes!

I loved this post over at Pretty Pear. This ad from Torrid is a perfect example of what not to wear: a pouch halter visually ads weight in the wrong places, leggings looks so much better with boots, and even the colors are jarring. Check out the comments below Pretty Pear’s post, too.
