Currently we’re suffering through a drought here in perpetually sunny Southern California. Another option for those of us of a fairer complexion is to carry a parasol or umbrella if you’re going to be outside.  It’s a old-fashioned tradition that still works today.  I managed to snag a hand-painted parasol from China that I adore.  I wasn’t able to find one online, but I did find a great umbrella from Burberry that would do the trick:
