I have been waiting for this highly anticipated Gap/CFDA Nominees khaki collection to come out for months! The Council of Fashion Designers of America held their Fashion Awards ceremony last night to celebrate outstanding achievements in the fashion world. The Gap has been working with nominees Vena Cava, Alexander Wang, and Albertus Swanepoel to create a fashionable collection that is a modern interpretation of the classic Gap khaki.

The Gap chose talented South African accessories designer Albertus Swanepoel to design five unique khaki hats for this special collection. These limited edition hats are beautiful and innovative with simple yet unique twists on a traditional safari hat. The hats will be available in Gap stores nationwide starting Wednesday, July 17 (today in NY) but are available to order online today. I can’t wait to try them on in the stores! Get one before they sell out!

I’m head over heels for this satin peplum Napolean dress by Vena Cava. Everything about it is romantic to me, the pale washed out color, the simple sexy silhouette. I think it’s just dreamy. The gathering along the armholes and gentle shirring create interest in the bodice, and the peplum conceals the muffintop region, making this a good option for pear shapes. And how perfect is this chevron stripe halter dress by M Missoni RTW? It’s styled for fall, but it would be perfect to wear to a daytime wedding this summer. The simple strappy top looks fabulous with the completely open back and circle skirt in trademark Missoni knit pattern. The color palette is pure sherbet, but with a lovely neutral taupe thrown in for good measure. Available for $248 from Gilt.

This abstract print dress by Vera Wang Lavender is extremely versatile and beautiful option for wedding season. I can see it with strappy sandals for day, or with stockings and stilettos for evening. The sheath silhouette is one that will work for a lot of women. The dress itself is simple, but the complex print and subtle beading at the neckline make it dressy enough for a lot of occasions. This sweet white eyelet dress, also by Vera Wang Lavender, would make a great wedding dress for a simple, casual affair or a destination getaway. The peter pan collar opens with a sweet row of buttons to the waist. If you wanted less contrast between lining and shell, you could just wear a simple white slip underneath, since the lining is detachable. Available for $144 from Ideeli.

fashion week: vena cava 08 RTW

OK, I’ve never covered fashion week before, so everyone is going to have to bear with me. I’ll say right now that I’m not there and I wish that I was, so i could tell you up close and personal what is going on for the shows. But I will try to poke around to other sites to get you a conglomeration of coverage and highlight my favorites.

And yes, it’s Thursday. I’m late to the party, as always. But with no delay, a few pics (via style.com) of the Vena Cava show.

Looking at the show there’s lots and lots of menswear-inspired items, flowy pieces and stuff that reminds me of a Hollywood party circa 1975. I do like this pretty green frock, which is still light and pretty. It’s not really 70s Hollywood party, but still a little glam.

See? What did I tell you about menswear? I do like the top. A lot.

Simple dress, the jazz shoes that are everywhere these days, and I think that’s a leather jacket. I can’t tell for sure, but I love the cut.

Boiled down: A mix of glam 70s, menswear, and girly for Vena Cava. The colors were brown, black, white with a splash of seafoam green and mustard yellow.

Remember back when I posted about the Refinery29 Countdown videos? Well, I thought they had launched it, and I did write about it after they said they would launch it, but I pointed you toward the wrong videos

Anyway, you can still check it out. They have Vena Cava(love them) and this week is Alexander Wang. You’ll get Rag & Bone next week!
