Wedding cake toppers are usually plastic, generic, and not that memorable. Of course there are plenty of custom options out there that include cutesy clay characters and delicate carved wood figurines. But I have seldom seen anything as sweet as these bird toppers.

They are totally handmade by the artist of recycled materials. I love the earthy, rustic look of them. They would be amazing on a very simple handmade cake, or just for a couple with crafty taste. Check out some of the other custom birds.

This colorful pair gives you an idea of what’s possible for a less subdued couple.

Pink and brown is one of my favorite color combos, and it would be perfect for a non-traditional chocolate cake.

Looking for the perfect wedding gift for a quirky couple? Well, before you buy that blender, make sure they don’t already have one, okay, because when I got married, we got like six blenders. My favorite gift, besides an expensive piece of art, was a set of towels from my friend Christy, because they actually looked like something I would put in my house. These also look like something I would put in my house.

Adorable, right? They look straight out of the Anthropologie catalog. But instead of supporting some corporate Made in China crap, these are re-worked vintage cups and saucers from the 1960’s. Which makes them eco-friendly. Did I also mention that they’re adorable? I guess they’re gingham, so that goes without saying. Available for $42 from Trixie Delicious.

Butterfly Lanterns by Divine On A Dime

Are you looking for a way to decorate for your wedding without spending a ton of money? Well, forget about having someone else do it for you, then, because that costs a fortune. Instead, gather all your artsy-est bridesmaids and friends, and get them thinking about way to save cash without looking like it. Here’s an idea.

These butterfly lanterns are pretty and sweet. Butterflies are somehow a big thing at weddings these days, (I guess they symbolize transformation, so that makes sense) so if you’re hopping on the butterfly bandwagon, here’s another way to do it. It’s a lot more humane than that whole setting butterflies free instead of rice-throwing thing. If you’re looking for a wedding or annversary gift, there’s a lot of made-to-order options out there. But a lot of them are a) tacky and b) expensive. I love an earthy gift that’s a subtle reminder of your vows, like this engraved stone.

I can see a lot of potential for this, in terms of decor. You could definitely use them as part of your wedding decorations, perhaps in a bowl of other stones with some scattered flowers? The Thoreau Moss Terrarium Centerpiece

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about this amazing moss ring bearer’s pillow, which initiated an elaborate fantasy on my part about the weddings of wood nymphs. I can’t say for sure that they have a marriage ceremony similar to our own, but whatever it is, it’s sure to be elaborately, and greenly, decorated.

Well, maybe we can’t all be wood nymphs, but you can have a fancifully lovely wedding if you want to.
