Jewelry designer Anne Holman uses little pieces of vintage maps to create her unique pieces.  The maps are set into her hand-made sterling silver findings and then covered with a layer of resin to seal, protect and magnify the images.

She has map jewelry from all over the world, but if you want a map from a particular place, or places – she’ll make it for you.  You could have a bracelet with your birthplace, or significant cities from your past… or places you’d like to go in the future.

This Wednesday is Remembrance Day or Veteran’s Day, depending on where you live.  In Canada and England, red poppies are worn to remember those who lost their lives in the different wars.

While these poppies aren’t the ones that are traditionally worn, I think it’s still appropriate to wear them in memory.

This felted poppy necklace is by AVA Original Felted Art and is made using merino wool.  It’s adjustable, depending on how many times you wrap the “stem” around your neck.

These delicate earrings are made using glass bells, flowers and beads, on sterling silver hoops by Canadian jewelry designer Amanda Mackay.

Eight Seasons created this unique wristlet using layers of red leather, shaped to created little flowers, on a base of cream-colored leather.

In fact, Fabuluster uses your own fingerprint to create one-of-a-kind fine jewelry that no one else will have.

Brent & Jessica Williams of Fabuluster create their elegant jewelry using sterling silver and gold.  As well as their custom fingerprint rings, they also use natural materials like feathers and leaves in their jewelry.

Here’s one of their custom fingerprint wedding bands:

The fingerprint is imprinted on the outside of the sterling silver ring, with a polished interior.

You can also keep the fingerprints a secret and wear them on the inside instead:

This pair of wedding bands look like standard rings, but only you & your sweetie will know that you’ve got a little secret inside!

So how do they reproduce your fingerprint?  They will send you an impression kit, which is then used to print your fingerprint from.

In fact, it’s jewelry that you can customize yourself!

These nifty little pendants by Etsy jewelry & accessories designer, Spittin Toad, are actually little blackboards.

That’s right, you can write on your necklace, erase it and start all over again tomorrow.  The pendants are just over an inch square, so Spittin Toad recommends using a dress maker’s pencil (available from most craft shops) or a piece of sharpened chalk to write with.  Just use a damp cloth to wipe the necklace off and you can write on it over and over again.

The pendants come in a rainbow of trim colors, including this cheery orange one:

Etsy jewelry designer “Made By Sam” has an extensive collection of jewelry made with semi-precious stones and metal leaves or branches – perfect for helping you remember what leaves look like in the middle of winter

Here are a few of my favorite pieces from their huge online shop:

These earrings feature matte gold-plated branches, with faceted ruby briolette drops.

This lovely lariat necklace is made from a sterling silver olive branch and finished with a bi-color lemon quartz stone on sterling silver chain.

Frank Ideas creates jewelry with a combination of felt beads, strung onto soft, flexible rubber tubing.  Some of their necklaces are set lengths – like this one:  Aqua felt and round black rubber tubing necklace.

And some of them, like the Moss green felt bead and round black rubber tubing adjustable necklace, are meant to be adjusted and played with.  You can adjust where the beads sit, and change the necklace by how many times you wrap it.  The necklaces can also be wrapped into a dramatic cuff bracelet as well.

I was browsing through Etsy this morning, looking for our Weekend Etsy Pick when this gem caught my eye.  Don’t get me wrong – it’s a lot of look, but I love the playfulness and sheer exuberance:

This piece by Big Frozen Melon is a mix between a really skinny scarf and an enthusiastic lariat necklace.  The flower itself is made from felted Merino wool, with stitched bead accents in the center of the flower.  The necklace/scarf is crocheted cotton, and at almost six feet long, has plenty ways to wear it.

Big Frozen Melon also creates felted handbags and hair accessories with their large felted flowers.  They also make some lovely wedding accessories, everything from little flowers to the same style of necklace as the one I’ve shown – just in white.

Boy, did I hit paydirt!  I found everything from delicate, polished cuff bracelets, embellished with faceted stones to big, chunky statement pieces.

I had a terrible time narrowing down my choices to just one bracelet, but in the end, this sterling silver cuff won out:

It’s made by Tennessee-based jewelry design studio, Lavender Cottage, using 18 gauge sterling silver sheet metal, and accented with a Labradorite cabochon.  Labradorite is an opalescent stone from Canada’s north.

The metal has been heavily worked, given it a sensual, organic finish – it almost looks like a soft textile with those folds and ripples.

The bracelet is titled “Galadriel’s Dream“, but you don’t need to be a Lord of the Rings fan to wear it…
