10 Activities To Replace Canada Day

With municipal workers still striking in Toronto, July 1st is fast approaching and lots of Canada Day activities in the city have been cut down or cut out completely. No one wants to hang out on the streets if there are two weeks worth of trash lining the sidewalks!

Here is a list of the cancelled events:

• Canada Day Celebrations, Thompson Memorial Park/ Miliken District Park

• New Country Canada Day Jam, Woodbine Park
• 16th Annual Neighbours Together, Riverdale Park East
• Canada Day Festival, Kew Gardens
• Canada Day, Mel Lastman Square

But don’t worry…there are still plenty of ways you can keep busy and take advantage of that day off from work. Here are some ideas…

1. Bake cookies. Or brownies. Or anything chocolate-y and delicious.
2. Go see a movie. I hear that Up and The Hangover are really great!
3. Clean out your closet. Then treat yourself to a few new things on July 2nd.
4. The night before, buy all the necessary ingredients for your own home spa day.
5. Host a dinner party at home.
6. Take a day trip out to the country for some fresh, garbage-free air.
7. Brave the smelly streets and photo document the mounds of garbage.
8. Check out The Toronto Jazz Festival.
9. Fast for the day in preparation for Summerlicious which starts just a couple days later!
10. Sleep the day away and just be grateful you don’t have to go outside.
