In case you haven’t been inside a mall or store in a while, you might not have noticed all the holiday decorations on display. I love this time of year because of all the feel-good movies. You know, those classic holiday movies that we’ve grown up with as children.   Today, I thought I’d get a head start on the season by listing just a few of the holiday movies that I love (in no particular order, of course).

1. Love Actually (2003) – I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t love this movie! The ending was amazing.

2. Elf (2003) – I’m not a huge Will Ferrell fan but I do love Zooey Deschanel and this movie is wonderful and sweet.

3. Miracle on 34th Street (1947) – One of my top favourite holiday movies, who wouldn’t want to believe that Santa is real?

4. White Christmas (1954) – Another one of my top favourites of all time and it’s a great movie to sing along to!

5. Home Alone (1990) – This is a fun movie for the whole family. Though the made a couple sequels, the first one was the best.

6. A Christmas Carol (1951) – Who doesn’t love this movie? The meanest man in London, Ebenezer Scrooge, learns his lesson in the end!

7. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) – A great movie with an even greater lesson.

8.  A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) – Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang show us what Christmas is all about!

9. Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – Tim Burton is ridiculously talented and this film is a visual delight.

10. Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) – Rudolph shows us that being a little different isn’t always a bad thing.

11. Frosty The Snowman (1969) – A timeless classic for families that will have you singing along through the end.

12. The Nutcracker (1993) – A beautiful ballet by one of my favourite composers Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky! Who doesn’t know the dance of the sugarplum fairies?

The holiday season is one of my favourite times of the year and its not only because of the fabulous sales, shopping (for other and yes, myself) and the parties but it’s because every year, we gather together to watch one of these movies. These movies allow us to take a moment to step outside of ourselves and our current worries. They warm our hearts and make us appreciate life and what we have.

Are any of these movies on your list? Do you have a favourite holiday movie that’s not listed here? Let us know below!
