Here are just of my favorite (beauty and style) things:

Clarisonic – Since I started using this a little over a year ago, I think my skin has noticeable improvement.

Pink – Not just because it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month either! Pink has always been a color that I’ve loved, and with so many shades, it’s flattering to nearly every skin tone. And it’s available in clothing, lipstick, blush, and nail color.

Heels – I’ve always loved them, giving rise to the theory — so many heel, so little time.

Jeans – No matter the cut, the wash, or the label, nothing says sexy like a great fitting pair of jeans.

Bare Escentuals foundation – While I continue to sample everything else that comes out, I always go back to this favorite.

Black – My wardrobe staple, and a solid base to build from. Having a staple like this means everything I buy will go with numerous things in my closet.

Ballet flats – Normally a heels gal, I broke my foot earlier this year and had to re-discover flats. They’ll still never replace my heels, but ballet flats can pull together a casual or evening outfit.

Body scrubs – Although I love going to a spa for a body scrub, even using it at home helps keep all those dry bits of skin at bay.

Scarves – A simple and inexpensive way to change an outfit, and to turn drab into wow. Done well, it almost makes me feel European.

Louis Vuitton hand bags – Especially when you can buy them at the flagship store in Paris.

iPhone – With all the available apps, you’ll never be far away from all the information you need.

Kiehl’s Silk Groom – This simple, all-purpose product help keep me well coiffed in addition to making my hair feel soft.

Diamond Studs – Part of any earring wardrobe, these can be worn with an evening gown or jeans.

Gold Hoops – The best size will depend on your face structure and hair, but every girl needs a pair.

Bubble Bath – The ultimate in relaxation. Better with a book or magazine. Even better with a glass of wine.

Pajamas – Whether for sleeping, lounging, or a romantic evening, I love my pajamas.

Massage – Nothing takes the stress out of my body like a deep tissue massage, and every time I have one, I tell myself not to wait so long before the next.

New York Times – A cup of coffee and the Sunday style section makes for a great weekend.

Hats – I used to wear them more often, and I think I’m ready to get back into wearing them again. The classic fedora for the fall and winter may be a way to ease back into the trend.

Make up Bags – For travel, for home, for in the car, for at my desk, I love pretty little bags to keep my necessities in.

Animal Print – I wasn’t sure that I could wear this trend, but there are so many different choice that everyone can find a way to pull it off.

Champagne – The perfect thing to hold in your hand when your wearing a little black dress.

Mascara – Some how, even if I’m not totally pulled together, mascara makes it look like I am.

White shirts and blouses – They always look fresh, go with everything, are easy to accessorize, and with enough styles and fabrics that you can’t own enough.

Prada Infusion D’Iris perfume – My current go-to fragrance.

Paris – Fashion capital of the world, and where women don’t get fat.

Kindle – To read all that great chick lit and fashion biographies.

Pedicures – My feet are not terribly attractive, but a good scrub and polish gets them sandal-ready.

InStyle – Probably my favorite fashion magazine.

Splendicity – Reading every day keeps me up on the newest designers, latest trends, and all the new products coming out.

Yes, Fall is here – both on the calendar and the weather. While there may be another week or two of Indian Summer, it’s time to get your wardrobe and beauty routine ready for the season change.

Here are some things you can do:

Reconsider self tanner – Sure, it made you look sun-kissed during the summer, but think about whether that faux glow is a look you want to continue on into fall and winter.

Be careful with the bronzer – Along the same lines of the self tanner, an overuse of bronzer this time of year looks like you’re trying to hard to let go of summer. A little highlight is one thing, the all over bronzy look is another.

Check your makeup – Chances are that you have a few things left over since last fall. Take a long hard look at these items and make sure that nothing is past its prime. Toss mascara out after 3 months. If something smells funky, out it goes. If it looks like it’s changed colors or is contaminated in some way, toss it. When applying something to my face, my adage is, if in doubt – toss it out.

Check your colors – There are classic eye shadow and blush shades that never go out of style. That’s why they’re called classic. Other colors can be combined with new shades to give an updated look. Some were just mistakes to purchase in the first place. This is a good time to throw them out. Make an appointment with your favorite make up counter for a new fall look. Be sure to bring along any favorites so that you learn how to incorporate them into your look.

Take a hard look at your hairstyle and color – Is it time for a change? How long has it been since you’ve changed (updated) your hair cut or color. Nothing says old like clinging to a style that looked great – five years ago. Schedule a consultation with a stylist and get some ideas, and then make an appointment later if you decide to go ahead with the change.

Dig out your fall and winter clothes – Try things on, and if they don’t fit, give them to a women’s shelter or back-to-work program. If things need mending or altering, arrange to have that done. If you didn’t wear it last fall, you probably won’t this fall either, so save yourself some closet space and give it away.

Check your shoes and boots – Get repairs made, heels repaired, new soles put on, or slip guards put on the bottom. Shine them up. If they’re too tight, have them stretched to see if they’ll fit. If they’re uncomfortable, give them away to a new, loving home.

Try a new fragrance – You may have loved those floral scents for spring and summer, but try something new for wall and winter. Go a little woodsier, maybe a bit more exotic. The weather may be cooling down, but there’s no reason that you can’t heat up the place.

Get out the fall handbags – Time to retire the straw and lighter weight fabric bags, and get out the hearty leather for every day wear. Satchels, bucket bags, slouch bags, and other classic shapes are always a good choice come fall. Make sure that you take care of any repairs, too.

Adopt a new attitude – Be confident, even when you’re not. Be happy, even when you have struggles. Give to others, even when all you can afford is a smile. Be thankful, for every day that you’re given.

Do you have any tips for fall?

Called the D&G Fragrance Collection for Her and Him, the fragrances shake out as a bit of a mixed bag. While I think they are definitely more for HER than HIM, we all know that body chemistry makes a big difference is how the fragrance dries down and lingers.

Here’s a primer to get you started:

1 – Le Bateleur, named for the Juggler or Magician, has aromatic notes of cedar and vetiver. Fresh, clean, and sporty, this fragrance didn’t dry down on me. Maybe it will be better on a guy, but it was just sort of meh as far as I’m concerned. Not bad, not good, just there.

3 – L’Imperatrice, named for the Empress, has vibrant fruit and bright pink floral notes. There’s a nice amount of citrus to keep it from being too cloyingly sweet, but also enough soft sweet notes to keep it from being too harshly fruity. I liked the scent, but it didn’t seem to have staying power. Not sure how it would be for a guy, methinks perhaps a bit too sweet.

6 – L’Amoureux, named for the Lovers, has notes of seductive woods and tempting spices. Very woodsy, in my opinion, and not in a way that works well for me. Smelled it on a guy, however, and it was quite nice. Not sure many women will be able to carry this one off.

10 – La Roue de la Fortune, named for the Wheel of Fortune, has notes of opulent tuberose and daring patchouli. If you don’t like sweet fragrances, you can pass this one right on by, but if you love gardenia and jasmine, you’ll want this fragrance, and the patchouli does nothing to mellow it out. It’s strong; wear sparingly so your non-sweet loving friends don’t run for cover. I can’t see a guy opting for this scent, and this seems all girly-girl.

18 – La Lune, named for the Moon, has white floral and soft white leather notes. Another sweet fragrance, this one reminds me of something that I just can’t put my finger on. A scent, a memory, something that I just haven’t figured out yet. Maybe when I do I can better decide if I like this scent or not. Another one that just doesn’t seem right for a guy.

The D&B Fragrance Collection for Her and Him is reasonably priced (especially for D&G) at $65 for 3.3 fl. oz, are available at fine fragrance counters.

My favorite was 10, although I know it sweety-sweetness will not be for everyone. Have you tried these fragrances? What do you think? Are they unisex, or more for us girls? Do you have a favorite?

I wish we lived in a world where I didn’t need to wear a pink ribbon, in October or any time at all. A world where breast cancer was nearly non-existent, and if it did occur, involved treatment as easy as treating measles or chicken pox. Until that happens, I hope you’ll join with me in wearing pink to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October.

Here are some things you can do:

GET A MAMMOGRAM. Yes, I’m shouting that! Since early detection is key, this is a step that every single one of us can take today. Be pro-active in your health care, make the appointment!

Patronize business that are offering special pink promotions. From cosmetics to fashion, restaurants to pet shops, online shopping to jewelry, lots of businesses are having pink specials. It may be a pink product, special menu, or just making a commitment to donate a percentage of proceeds to breast cancer. Patronize these businesses, especially those in your local area, and tell them how important their commitment to the cure is in your decision to do business with them.

Tell others about the the fight for a cure. Whether it’s by talking about it, joining a Race for the Cure run or walk, getting involved with a community project, or blogging about it. The fight for a cure cannot be a silent one.

Wear pink. You can wear the symbolic pink ribbon, a pink wristband, or any of the many pink fashion statements available. I hope you’ll do it consciously, thinking about the meaning and hope behind the color.

And maybe one day, one day soon I hope, we’ll find that cure!

I’m an allergy sufferer. As summer turns into fall, the weather changes and the rain comes, become a sneezing, sniffling, eye-watering mess. It’s not attractive! And when there’s so many great fall clothes dying to come out of my closet, it’s hard to think about being stylish when I can barely crawl out of bed.

Now that the fall allergy season is upon me, I offer these suggestions to fellow sufferers:

Hot showers. There’s nothing like steam to loosen up all the crud that’s clogging up your sinuses. I’ve occasionally hit the steam room, but sometimes if I’m too stuffed up, that can be too painful. But a morning and bedtime hot shower is a pro-active stance.

Moisturize. When you’re blowing your nose all the time, a little extra moisturizer will help the end of your nose from becoming raw.

Eye drops. Whether from sleepless nights, or just painful sinus pressure, eye drops can brighten up your look and mask the pain that lies within.

Drugs. There’s no way around it, this time of year I depend them. Explore what works best for you, be it Sudafed, Claritin, Allegra, or whatever decongestant gives you relief.

Sleep. It may be elusive, interrupted, and downright uncomfortable. But you need sleep to help you heel and to help reduce those dark circles in the morning.

Concealer is your friend. The dark circles and puffiness will happen. Brighten up what you can, and face the day looking rested — even if you really aren’t.

Wear bright colors. I’ve been guilt of violating this tip myself, but even if it’s only bright pajamas or loungewear, it makes you look and feel better. Looking good, even when you feel crummy, helps get your head in the right state of mind.

Do you have any tips for helping to tame your allergies and keep looking good? Please leave a comment, because I need all the help I can get!
