10 Things to Do to Get Ready for Fall

10 Things to Do to Get Ready for Fall

Yes, Fall is here – both on the calendar and the weather.  While there may be another week or two of Indian Summer, it’s time to get your wardrobe and beauty routine ready for the season change.
Here are some things you can do:

Reconsider self tanner – Sure, it made you look sun-kissed during the summer, but think about whether that faux glow is a look you want to continue on into fall and winter.
Be careful with the bronzer – Along the same lines of the self tanner, an overuse of bronzer this time of year looks like you’re trying …read more

5 Pairs Of Shoes I Want For Fall

I walked by Aldo the other day and almost swooned when I saw what was on display for Fall. So many colors, heels that are actually wearable and the foundations of a highly covetable boot collection.
For that afternoon at least…I walked away empty-handed. I must think about this, I told myself. No sense in rushing into anything when the next best pair could be waiting just a couple weeks away. We’re right in the thick of fall previews and freshly stocked shelves…patience.
After further research, I’ve found the five pairs I want the most. They will be hard to resist, I …read more

4 Steps To Treat Your Feet After High Heels

My guy friends can’t seem to understand that sometimes there are shoes that just beg you for a home. They look all pretty and innocent on the shelf, somehow convincing you that five inch stilettos are a great choice for everyday wear.
By the time you get them home, the shiny allure of the newness is starting to wane…which means that now you have to be extra sure to get your money’s worth and take these puppies for a spin.
But most heels weren’t made for walking. Especially when they’re brand new and not so broken in. So after a long day …read more

8 Things to Do Over Labor Day Weekend

8 Things to Do Over Labor Day Weekend

Next weekend is Labor Day weekend, the last 3-day holiday of the summer season.  If you don’t have plans to hit the road and travel, there are a lot of thing to take care of at home, giving you a had start of fall projects.
Clean out your closet – Star listed some great tips about how to clean and organize your closet, and a long weekend sounds like a good time to tackle the project.  I’m embarrassed to admit just how out of control my closets are right now.  I have two walk-in closets, and they are in need of …read more

8 Reasons Not to Wait Till You’re Old to Wear Purple

8 Reasons Not to Wait Till You’re Old to Wear Purple

I’ve always chuckled over the poem Warning by Jenny Joseph.  The first line says, “When I’m an old woman I shall wear purple.” While I’m not an old woman. . . yet. . . her concept would fit in perfectly right now, with purple a hot trend for the coming fall.

Consider all the purple options that you have:

Dresses – from elegant evening wear to sun dresses to business attire, purple makes a bold fashion statement.
Skirts, pants,  and top – these will let you mix and match when you don’t want to be decked out entirely in purple, and allow you …read more

Fashion Finds on Day One of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Fashion Finds on Day One of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Yesterday was the first day of the annual Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  For some of you that’s really not a big deal, but I’m in Seattle, and here, the sale is a VERY BIG deal.
Growing up, it may have been back-to-school shopping with mom and dad.  In college, it may have been the opportunity to pick up one or two fun pieces for fall.  And for many businesswomen, this is the time to stock up on basic wardrobe items in addition to finding a couple of new fall outfits.
I’m at that in between shopping phase.  I wear a uniform for my …read more

8 List Maven Shopping Indulgences

While travel is my blogging forte, I love writing about beauty and fashion here at Splendicity.  I thought it would be a great way to get in touch with my inner girliness.
It’s been great fun, but I’ve recently learned that it can also be quite expensive.  Here are 10 indulgences that prove my point:

I chose to buy an entire set of new makeup (MAC) to go to Europe, and I justify it by saying it’s research for two blogs.
I bought two different kinds of mascara, again claiming it was research – making comparisons for an upcoming product review.

2 Coupons To Use this Weekend

I’m not typically a coupon clipper.  I know that you can save a bundle, but so many times the coupon isn’t for what I use or need.  I keep my eye out though, and every once in awhile there’s one that offers me a real value.
Here are two that I plan on using – and maybe you will too!

From DSW, one of my favorite shoe stores for fashion and value, is a $10 off coupon on any purchase over $50.  And any gal worth her salt can spend over $50 at a shoe store!  The coupon is valid online …read more

6 Reasons to Play in the Mudd

I’m typically a high heel gal, even when wearing them has pushed the bounds of practicality.  For times when you’re an urban explorer, however, it’s far more sensible to have some good walking shoes for walking on cobblestone roads, gravel paths, and boardwalks.
Just the term “walking shoes” conjures up some serious ugly thoughts.  But when I discovered Mudd,I discovered all sorts of fun looking and comfortable flats that are perfect for hiking all over a city.  Now, you’re still going to need some serious shoes for hiking in the mountains, but for urban explorers, Mudd offers some great choices.
Here are …read more
