Gift Idea: Jo Malone Fragrance Chronicles

Jo Malone “tells” a story with their two new Fragrance Chronicle collections. Each collection contains a main fragrance accord in a 30 ml cologne, followed by additional smaller cologne blends, all packaged in a fragrance “book.” The idea is to layer the scents to create something unique. These are unisex collections.

Reese Witherspoon’s In Bloom

When I heard that Reese Witherspoon was working on a fragrance with AVON, I imagined it to be something floral. I look at Reese and I see feminine, confident, and a whole lot of blond hair. For some reason that says “floral” to me.
In Bloom, the fragrance that Witherspoon created with AVON, is a Floral, but it’s warmly grounded with Woody and Oriental notes. The combination makes In Bloom womanly, rather than girly, which I think is a smart choice because it appeals to a much larger audience.

Kenzo Power Review & Savings for Readers

Kenzo is a company that is always trying something new. They will take one their established fragrances and tweak it, make something new with the addition of notes, all new packaging, etc. It’s one of the reasons that I really enjoy writing about them – there’s always something interesting going on.
A good example is the new Kenzo Power Cologne for men. They started with the original Amber notes of Kenzo Power and followed in the tradition of the early 18th century colognes by opening with fresh, aromatic citrus notes.

Gifts: Juicy’s Travel EDP Strawberry

While waiting for trick-or-treaters to come to my door, I decided to do a little shopping. The cutest little bottle of Juicy Couture’s Travel Eau de Parfum – Strawberry caught my eye.  The bottle is a one ounce size with a little strawberry charm hanging off the side of the top. Adorable. After seeing her reaction to the bottle of Mally, I know a certain teenager who would love to find this bottle come the holidays.
Since Juicy girls are always on the move, Pamela and Gela wanted them to have their Juicy Couture wherever they went. That’s why they created …read more

Interview: Mally Roncal of Mally Beauty

Yesterday, I reviewed Mally, the new fragrance from Mally Beauty. I always wonder what inspires a fragrance designer.  Where do they get their ideas?  Where does the process start?  I had the opportunity to ask Mally Roncal a few of these questions and here’s how she explained her particular process…
*What made you decide to create a fragrance?
I believe that beauty is about more than just camouflaging zits and applying color… To me, it’s an aura that can be seen, smelt, felt, and heard by others. That’s why I created this fragrance…It’s my first step outside of cosmetics and I’m on a …read more

Home Fragrance: DIY Scented Pine Cones

I was running errands yesterday, hurrying, filling my cart, when all of a sudden I smelled the familiar scent of cinnamon. Cinnamon-scented pine cones. I love those things and I grab a bag every year. They make my whole home smell like the holidays.
You can make them yourself. Purchase or collect about 2 pounds of pine cones. The cones are part of a visual display, so pick pretty ones. The cones that are open give you more area to cover with scent, so keep that in mind, as well.

Field Notes From Paris: A Review

The latest fragrance is Ineke’s line of unisex alphabetical fragrances is Field Notes From Paris.  The fragrance was inspired by Ineke’s days in Paris and Versailles where she studied perfumery. “It captures the romantic, nostalgic feelings of sitting in a cafe and writing in a journal while lingering for hours over a cafe creme.”
The fragrance is a Woody Oriental and I recently had the opportunity to try a sample of it. It has the following notes:

Middle notes: Tobacco Flower, Tobacco Leaf (Nicotiana), Cedar, Patchouli
