Ugliest Plus-Size Chambray Jumpsuit

We should all be happy that this “only” runs to size 3 at Torrid, and happens to run small. This is one seriously ugly plus-size item, and one that you can’t help but wonder about. Who will be wearing this? Will one of my readers take the plunge? Will I see this at the beach? These are all very scary, real options, as is the price– $52.

For many other pieces, a $52 price tag would be awesome. However, this piece seems like it deserves a $25 price tag to make it remotely attractive.
I have a feeling that a few people …read more

Cute, but Challenging to Pull Off for 14+

When I first saw this silk blouse at Nordstrom, I thought it was so cute. Revisiting it, I still think it’s cute, in an alternative, kinda crunchy way, but I think this is one tough top to pull off when you’re bigger. Do you ever fall in love with pieces that you know are going to be a hassle to rock? Sigh.

I started mentally styling this piece when I saw that it goes up to 3X (it’s only available in the color shown, though). I think it needs shape, but belting it will kill the overall effect. Instead of the …read more

Stopping by Hips and Curves

Hips and Curves is, hands down, one of my favorite places to shop for plus-size lingerie. It’s not too expensive, a lot of it has magical boosting powers, and they sell body-positive t-shirts as well. I make it a point to check out their items at least once a month. Here’s what I found during my February visit!

*Ruffle Shelf Bra: How hot is this? It’s not practical, but it sure beats all those bras we have that look like body bandages or extra-large baseball caps.
*Ruffle Demi Bra: This ruffled bra is a more wearable option than the shelf bra, but …read more

Hot Plus-Sized Jeans, Pt. 2

Today I present a pair of plus-sized jeans for those who hate plus-size skinnies. I don’t blame you– some of us might not like them, or have a preference for the roomier stuff. No problem! There is a great option here, over at Lord & Taylor. They are called “slim,” not skinny, and they are the right way to go about slimmer-fitting plus pants.

These black jeans are a great buy, and awesome to be paired with a long t-shirt and a vest. If you are afraid of wearing something tight along the rump region, start pulling out the long-line tees …read more

Hot Plus-Size Jeans

Some plus women look so amazing in skinny jeans. If you are one of those people, then how about you take a look at these black jeans from 14W-24W over at Saks? I literally gasped when I saw them, because I want them so. bad. They have a straight, narrow leg and are extremely curvy (ironic) once you put them on your bod.

I know that some plus women are against the whole skinny thing. Think of these as slim-fit straight leg instead of skinny, if that is what it takes for you to consider them. These will look stunning with …read more

Plus-Size at Etsy, Part II

I am all over Etsy right now! Case in point is this lovely vintage-style shirt with a sweet bow at the front. I love, love, love the hyper-feminine looks you can get for plus sizes. I must say, we generous-hipped girls do “sexy secretary” really well. Perhaps I will add this to my arsenal of girly blouses that I pair with jeans more often than I should. Don’t you think that this type of shirt just screams for a pencil skirt instead?
My favorite thing about this particular top (X, 1X, 2X) is the combination of Spandex and cotton. With an …read more

Drop-Waist Dresses– Yikes and Yum

I have a love-hate relationship with drop-waist dresses (more hate than love)… this Old Navy dress captivated me, though. It’s simple and casual, and will look amazing with sandals and heavy bangles. If you love dressing up casual pieces, then I would recommend pieces like this.
I say “like this” because this is one dangerous silhouette for the plus-size woman. If you are an apple shape, then all your drop-waist silhouette does is emphasize any paunch that you have– not good. If you are an hourglass, then you aren’t highlighting your true waist, which is also a problem.
Do you own drop-waisted …read more

Browsing Etsy for Plus

I hadn’t been over to Etsy for a while to shop for plus stuff, so I went by just the other day to grab myself some new pieces. Nothing too expensive (I’m being budget-conscious! ahhh!), but something new that would make me happy. I found a great piece that I thought I should share with you– it’s very kicky and available from 1-3X.
The Plus-Size Mambo Dress by shanaebytm is a full-skirted t-shirt dress that will work great with your skinny trousers and leggings. It’s quite daring, but not in the way that will make you regret it later! The fancy …read more

Will This Be a Mini Year?

Call me grouchy– I don’t think I am– but I always get peeved when I see a collection of plus clothes with just mini (or at least short) skirts. Unlike other collections of average-sized gear, I feel like we are subjected to a disproportionate number of shortened hemlines, low necklines, and empire-waisted silhouettes. Now take all of that, and combine it in one dress: that will be the bulk of our spring looks.
I must ask, dear plus readers, whether or not you rock the mini as an over-14. If your legs are you best asset, then I say go ahead! …read more

Tyra Banks Hosts Plus Modeling Contest

Tyra Banks has announced a new modeling contest– one that’s just perfect for we fashionable plus divas! It sounds like Tyra’s sick of people using “plus size” in a derogatory way (especially when “plus-size” is used to describe an average-sized woman). Join the club!
“Adolescence is such an impressionable time in a young woman’s life, and I hope this contest helps teen girls discover their own beauty from the inside out,” Tyra said in a press release. The contest is open to teens aged 13 to 19, 5′9″ to 6′1″, and sizes 12 to 20. The model search has been dubbed …read more
