Carmakoma Pick of the Week

Carmakoma is one of my very favorite places to shop for plus: it’s a treasure trove of 14+ pieces with true European flair, mostly because this label is actually from Europe. With creative cuts and plenty of romantic lines, this particular collection has made me a repeat customer for F/W 2009-10. As a plus-size shopper, you probably know just how very rare this is!
The Hallo Jacket ($173) has a functional and pretty texture of diamond-shaped topstitching, but it also employs some great detailing along the sleeves and button placket to make this piece stand out. Since we’re looking for functional …read more
Super Comfy Sleeping

Are you addicted to comfy pajamas? I definitely am! While I do love the sexy stuff, I’m always fighting my “need to be comfortable” side, which means that when I find a piece that bridges the gap, I rejoice! This sleepshirt from Hips and Curves is ultra-sexy and just $19.95… isn’t that perfect?
Of course, you can wear this tee with leggings or treggings if you prefer, but lounging around the house all day in it will just be too tempting for words! Slip into a 1/2X or a 3/4X (if only they had a 5/6X as well) and lazy around–this …read more
Loving Edward in My Plus Tee

Yes, I’m going to see New Moon, and no, I’m not embarrassed! That being said, I probably won’t wear this t-shirt anywhere except bed, but Robert Pattinson’s face is just too hot to pass up completely. For plus girls out there who aren’t afraid to show their fandom, Torrid carries a range of extended-size New Moon tees in a bunch of different styles.
At first I was thinking that it was weird to have dear Edward here emblazoned across my chest, but the idea is growing on me after catching some of the recent Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart outtakes! What …read more
Great Plus Find at Dillard’s

I love this plus-size blouse I found over at Dillard’s. I can’t think of the last time I shopped over there, but I think I need to change that now: this Nygard Collection Silk Blouse is positively festooned with interesting swirls on a quality silk ground. I get excited every time I see a cool plus-size blouse, but this one is extra special: does it even look like an extended-size offering to you?! Didn’t think so!
The color is an acquired taste, but I was breezing right past that to admire its border-print hem and highly flattering 3/4-length sleeves. This …read more
Missphit, F/W Round II

The Missphit fall collection pieces just don’t stop! They might only go to 3X, but I love what they are offering for the season. Next up is a sailor-style dress in cream, which will look amazing when worn with thick leggings or opaque tights, and retro-style distressed leather boots.
This is one of those “toss on a hat and a pin, and you’re done” type dresses. You can easily wear this to work, if you can dress casually, and don’t even get me started on how appropriate this is with a peacoat!
While I love the cream (I’m really feeling winter whites …read more
Loving This Cropped Faux Fur

I do love myself some fake fur, and this coat over at One Stop Plus goes up to size 4X! Not only can you grab it in this retro leopard style, but they also have it in ranch mink as well. All in all, this is one fuzzy, cute coat to wear out on the town, and I’m already scheming up what I’ll be pairing with it…when I finally get up North to wear it.
If you hate paying for shipping like I do, you’ll be pleased to know that One Stop Plus has this new feature called the OSP Shopper’s …read more
Picking Up Leggings at eShakti

Feeling the treggings trend? If you haven’t started sliding into stretchy denim/legging, trouser/legging combinations, you may want to stick with a pair of plus-size leggings instead, which are great for shoving into your wide calf boots (especially the ones with a snug fit).
Don’t forget that these leggings from eShakti, which go up to size 3X, are actually available in custom sizing as well. Have you ever even heard of custom-sized leggings? I hadn’t, especially not ones that cost $19.95 before the custom fitting charge (which is quite small). While I was obsessing over eShakti’s lighter-colored leggings, I know that the …read more
Nobody Will Know You’re Wearing Plus

Isn’t this a nice break from all of our work jackets? I swear, if I have to wear my black blazer one more time, I will go insane! I stumbled upon this sweet piece at Lord & Taylor by Adrianna Papell, and I was so happy I did. Not only does it have some great feminine details worked in, but it actually lets we plus-size hourglass girls emphasize our waists for once. It’s also quite tailored for a blouse, wouldn’t you say?
While I love a nice tummy-hiding piece as much as the next girl, sometimes you just crave structure. This …read more
Missphit’s New Plus Collection

Missphit’s newest collection drop for this A/W 2009-10 is pretty cool. They’ve combined some more of their plaid looks (of which I can’t get enough) with softer, fluid pieces. They also have some new outerwear to complete the whole group of offerings for you, and their jackets are particularly affordable right now. Budget-minded divas, you will love what Missphit has to offer!
This is, by far, my favorite piece. Not only can it easily be thrown over a simple graphic tee, but it looks cozy enough to wear right through the winter.
I love these pieces that don’t dominate your entire outfit …read more
Do You Want to Be a Plus-Size Model?

Have you always thought about becoming a plus-size model? I receive a lot of correspondence from people interested in modeling, and I think this an excellent opportunity, particularly for women who fit the “lifestyle” modeling mold.
The prizes are really good, for both first-prize and grand-prize winners. The Grand Prize is a contract with Dorothy Combs, a leading plus-size modeling agency, and a $1,000 wardrobe gift card. Not only will you get to make an appearance in Catherines campaigns, but you will also get a trip to New York City for your photoshoot, which includes airfare and hotel accommodations.
